Bellroy Transit Backpack Review

"Calming Capabilities"

The 28L Transit Backpack from Bellroy is nicely sized and well organized for big commutes, business travel and regular ol’ adventure travel. It’s such an innovative design.

Bellroy Transit Backpack Excellent materials on this bag.

Excellent materials on this bag.

The mesh and foam used in the straps and back panel are excellent examples of the lovely, unique materials used in this bag. Unlike anything else out there right now. Backpack straps and magnetic sternum are comfortable. No hip straps.

Padded and contoured shoulder straps. Feel solid to the touch. Great foam and mesh liner.

Contoured back panel with lots of breathability.

Bellroy Transit Backpack 28L capacity = minimal travel + daily carry capable.

28L capacity = minimal travel + daily carry capable.

Just big enough to do both travel AND daily carry.

When you get where you’re going, take out your clothing and take this pack out to hold water bottles, cameras, tech items, etc.Does it have enough capacity? Definitely for 1-3 day trips. Much longer than that if you’re a skilled minimal traveler.

Some will want a larger capacity. Lots of options here for that. This 28L bag is pretty large, tho, and still doable as a daily carry.

Bellroy Transit Backpack Lots of organization. Great laptop compartment.

Inner front panel features a mesh zippered pocket (on top) and a zippered pocket to organize clothing (like button up shirts). The meshes and liner material they use here feel lovely to the touch and will likely last through the years really well.

Quick access 15” laptop compartment on top-back of bag with a killer top zipper pocket for tech items.

Bellroy Transit Backpack Front vertical pocket.

Front vertical pocket.

Lots of space in this front vertical pocket. Fits my 11″ iPad pro easily. Also features some internal organization: a pouch oriented horizontally (towards the zipper), and two pen sleeves.

Material Choice:Sub-Par Satisfactory Excellent

Bellroy are material wizards. Woven fabric made from recycled bottles is classy looking and performs like a champ with water and dirt. Straps and mesh and zips are all favorites of my fingers.

Build Quality:Sub-Par Satisfactory Excellent

Everything feels solid to the touch. The kind of thing your fingers thank you for for years to come.

Water Resistance:Sub-Par Satisfactory Excellent

YKK aquaguard zips, water resistant woven nylon exterior. Does great in the rain.

External Access:Sub-Par Satisfactory Excellent

Two side pockets (invisible to passersby), front vertical pocket (with a good deal of room), top quick-access pocket, rear laptop pocket (with top inner pocket just inside).

Internal Organization:Sub-Par Satisfactory Excellent

Elastic compression straps to hold your clothing down. One small top pocket on the inner front panel, and one larger pocket behind that (designed for folded flat clothing like button up shirts).

Capacity:Sub-Par Satisfactory Excellent

Some will want bigger for their travels, but pro travelers who get used to this bag will be rewarded with a capable Everyday Carry bag once they arrive. Fits a large peak packing cube, small dopp kit, pair of sandals.

Carry Comfort:Sub-Par Satisfactory Excellent

Excellent materials on straps and back panel. No hip straps, but with the reasonable size and magnetic sternum strap I don't find I need them.

Extra Score:Sub-Par Satisfactory Excellent

Just a little extra score here to say the way Bellroy have designed this is extremely innovative, giving us travelers a very functional, stylish and goddam elegant bag.
