Sterling Pacific Luggage Review
"Heirloom Quality"
Lifetime warranty, epic construction, your kids will fight over it when you’re dead. This is heirloom stuff. Available in both 2 and 4 wheel versions — see the full breakdown in the video above. Also available in plastic now: check out the plastic version too.
More on the Sterling Pacific Luggage
What I like
- Italian full grain leather handles. Every time I grab them I melt a little
- Smoothest trolley I've ever used. Very little jiggle (still some)
- 5000-series aluminum body, thicker aluminum on the corners and wheel housings, steel rivets everywhere
- Lifetime warranty, and parts like handles and hinges are repairable
- Not painted, so scratches don't show a different color. It patinas like raw selvedge denim
- That 50s Americana, Mad Men look. You will get comments from other travelers
- 4-wheel 40L opens clamshell into two equal sides, so I can leave it open under the bed and live out of it like a dresser
- 2-wheel 35L is one big bucket and a lid: pack 2 in above the edge, smoosh it down, click. Oversized wheels on one thick axle for durability
- If I had to pick, I'd go spinner
Watch for
- More than $1,000 for a suitcase
- Heavy for a carry-on: the 2-wheel weighed about 11 lb on my scale
- It will scratch and can dent. Some people feel precious about checking it in
- Interior is simple with little organization; the original liner felt more polyester than I wanted
- Spinners can roll away on a tram or uneven ground; the 2-wheel puts the weight on your arm
Specs
- 40L 4-wheel Cabin Travel Case: 12.0 lb (brand site)
- 35L 2-wheel: about 22.5 x 14 x 8.5 in
- Carry-on size, TSA latches, lifetime warranty

Peak Design Roller Pro
Draw Bridge MagicThe splurge travel piece he'll use for 10+ years. It opened last year's guide and it's still the piece of luggage I hand people when they ask. Drawbridge opening, that carbon fiber trolley, the wheels. The kind of thing a whole family chips in on.

DB Journey Roller Luggage
Styled & DialedThe looks alone are worthy, but then the TSA clasps and metal frame make it last longer. Available in both plastic and metal "pro" options. Seriously excellent feeling luggage. Also covered in this deep dive on the Ramverk Alu version.
