King Kong Shift Backpack 27L Review
"Heritage Daily Tank"
The backpack side of the Shift collection. Same waxed canvas, same King Kong toughness, for the guy who’d rather carry on two straps.
KNKG’s most everyday-carry bag yet: the gym-brand toughness wrapped in waxed canvas that gets better with age (and looks and feels great from the start). Wide comfortable straps, self-standing structure, cinchable bottle pockets. Kinda perfect, you guys.

What I like
- The look is sick. Flat waxed canvas in person (the product photos read glossier). GoRuck GR1 vibes, but better.
- Waxed canvas from Halley Stevensons. Heritage feel without going full leather, and it gets better with age.
- Hidden quick access stash pocket tucked behind the front panel.
- The main compartment looks tight but swallows way more than you'd think. Surprises me every time.
- Laptop pocket is snug in the best way. My 16" MacBook Pro feels locked in and protected.
- In real use I leave every zip open and go in from the top. Easy.
- The best elastic bungee cinches I've ever felt on a bag.
- Big wide straps with excellent geometry. No sternum strap and I don't miss it.
- Stands up on its own no matter how it's packed, without feeling like a rigid jetpack. Boxy yet soft, no hard edges anywhere.
- Lovely soft folded-webbing top handle.
Watch for
- The top compression straps block the deep admin pocket. I've honestly considered cutting them. The bottom ones are great for a puffy, yoga mat or tripod.
- Custom G-hooks only popped loose on me once, but it happened.
- The bottom admin pouches can flop contents out if you're moving the bag around.
- No luggage pass-through. I wish it had one.
- Says 27L, feels more like 23-24L. Tight and ready to go.
- Around 3 lb. Waxed canvas can get moldy if you put it away wet (clean and re-wax it and you're fine).
- A little spendy, but I can see why, and I think it's worth it.
