What I like
- Extremely protective, with a jetpack vibe. Dense straps that you notice in a good way with a heavy load.
- Rear access to the whole bag, plus a side laptop pocket.
- Huge water bottle pockets on both sides, held closed with magnets.
- Modular dividers. I put my camera lens-up on the little top shelf, and I love that shelf and how smooth the zipper moves.
- Lots of features that aren't gimmicky. The insert comes out and you have a regular bag with a camera cube at the bottom.
- Accessory straps for a tripod. The hardware is no longer metal, which got scratched up on the first McKinnon bags.
Watch for
- A lot of zippers.
- The front mesh pockets are divided in the center. I'd rather they weren't.
- It doesn't open fully clamshell.
- The front flap version I showed was noted as not in production.
